FPV Ag – Feline Panleukopenia Antigen Rapid Test
Feline panleukopenia (FPV) is the parvovirus infection of cats: the feline counterpart of canine parvo, and it can become life-threatening just as quickly. This rapid test detects the virus antigen in a fresh stool sample from your cat.
Accuracy – manufacturer validation

When is the test recommended?
- Sudden onset of vomiting and diarrhoea
- Complete loss of appetite, signs of dehydration
- Lethargy, hiding, not responding as usual
- When a new kitten or a rescued stray arrives
- For unvaccinated cats or cats with unknown vaccination status
- In multi-cat households if one of the cats has fallen ill
How does it work? Three steps
-
1
Collect a fresh stool sample from the litter tray with the swab provided, or take a rectal swab.
-
2
Mix the sample in the buffer solution provided, then add it to the sample well of the cassette as described in the manufacturer's instructions.
-
3
Read the result between 5 and 10 minutes, at room temperature; after 15 minutes the result is invalid.
Reading the result

Positive
Panleukopenia antigen detected. Even a faint T line is a positive result. Seek veterinary care immediately — take the cassette with you.

Negative
No antigen detected. Virus shedding can be intermittent, so if symptoms persist, repeat the test within 2–3 days or contact your vet.

Invalid
No control line, so the result cannot be interpreted. Repeat the test with a new cassette.
Good to know
- According to the ABCD (European Advisory Board on Cat Diseases), after vaccination with a live vaccine the vaccine virus may be detectable in the stool for at least 4 weeks, which can produce a positive result. If your cat was vaccinated in the past few weeks, tell your vet. Source: ABCD
- The panleukopenia virus survives in the environment for a long time — thorough disinfection is especially important after a positive case.
- This test cannot be used for dogs; for dogs, use the CPV Ag test.
